• Willow type and grade: English willow bats at this price are usually Grade 3 or 4, meaning more grain lines and the occasional cosmetic blemish, but still good quality willow. Kashmir willow is denser and heavier, generally cheaper, and a sensible option for younger or very new players who won't yet feel the difference in pick up.
• Correct size: A bat that's too long or heavy will slow down a beginner's technique and can put them off the game.
